Summary:
48 HRS is about a cop so desperate to catch a killer that he’s willing to team up with a wise-cracking convict.
Synopsis:
The plot kicks off when two ruthless killers Albert Ganz (James Remar) and Billy Bear (Sonny Landham), escape from a chain gang and embark on a crime spree. Detective Jack Cates (Nick Nolte), is so determined to catch the fugitives that he hatches a plan to enlist the help of Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), a jailed convict with inside knowledge of Ganz and Billy’s criminal enterprise. Hammond is granted a temporary release from prison for 48 hours to assist Cates in apprehending the criminals.
From the moment they meet, Cates and Hammond clash. Cates is a no-nonsense cop, while Hammond is a smooth-talking hustler. Despite their differences, they team up and set out on a wild and chaotic pursuit across San Francisco.
As they delve deeper into the criminal underworld, Cates and Hammond encounter a variety of colorful characters and dangerous situations. Along the way, they engage in car chases, shootouts, and fistfights, all while trading barbs and forming an unlikely bond.
