Summary:
Role Models follows two energy drink salesmen, Danny and Wheeler, whose reckless behavior lands them in trouble with the law. To avoid jail time, they are forced to participate in a Big Brother-type mentorship program.
Synopsis:
Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) are two guys who make a living as walking advertisements for an energy drink called Minotaur. Their job? To drive around in a Minotaur-themed truck and pump kids full of caffeine and sugar in order to to keep them off drugs. Needless to say, they’re not exactly “role models”. Their carefree lifestyle comes crashing down when a school presentation ends with their truck getting wrecked and Danny’s girlfriend dumping him. To make things worse, they end up in court facing jail time for their antics.
Their only hope… community service as youth mentors with a program called Sturdy Wings.
Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is a nerdy kid obsessed with medieval role-playing, while Ronnie (Bobb’e J. Thompson) is a pint-sized troublemaker with a penchant for inappropriate jokes. Hilarity ensues as Danny and Wheeler try to mentor the two teens. From disastrous LARPing (Live Action Role-Playing) battles to awkward bonding sessions, the duo finds themselves in one more ridiculous situation after the other.
Along the way, they encounter a colorful cast of characters, including the Sturdy Wing’s overzealous program coordinator (Jane Lynch) and a group of over-the-top LARPers led by a hilariously intense King (Ken Jeong).
As Danny and Wheeler stumble their way through the mentorship program, they begin to learn some valuable life lessons around friendship, responsibility, and what it truly means to be a role model.
